FittingBox was created by Benjamin Hakoun and Ariel Choukroun, two young and complementary entrepreneurs. The story started when they realized whilst visiting an optical retailer that they could not see themselves in the mirror when trying on glasses. Ariel, PHD in computer science from INP, and engineer from INSA, and Benjamin, freshly graduated from HEC (leading French business school), saw the business opportunity behind this fairly common problem faced by consumers. Their combined skills and entrepreneurial energy led them to intense research and development in augmented reality and facial recognition, gaining technological and scientific support throughout the way and winning national innovation awards with the French Ministry of Research. FittingBox was born in August 2006 and based on a promising start the two raised money.
In June 2009, FittingBox raised funds from Banexi Ventures Partners. Banexi, an investment fund specialized in high-tech companies with high growth potentials, invested 1.5 million € in FittingBox. Among Banexi’s successes are Kelkoo and Inventel.
